Description
Genetics Society of America, Woods Hole meeting of 1936. Group portrait of the attendees at the Genetics Society of America (GSA) meeting in 1936 at Woods Hole, Massachusetts, USA. The GSA was founded in 1931, and its early meetings included a regular annual gathering at Woods Hole, one of the centres of US biological research. Here, the attendees are at the famous Marine Biological Laboratory (MBL), established in 1888. The Woods Hole GSA meeting for 1936 took place from 3-5 September 1936, with 149 people attending. This group photograph was taken on the entrance steps of the MBL's Lillie Building (Main Laboratory, built in 1924).
